How did you get into Risk Management?
Throughout my career, I have been focused on treasury related activities which included risk management. My current position at The Cooper Companies is the only time that I have been responsible for risk management without any other treasury or investment responsibilities.
What is your biggest challenge as a Risk Manager?
Currently, the biggest challenge I face as a risk professional is to socialize the consequences of a hard market to senior management.
What is the most important skill for a Risk Professional?
In my opinion, there isn’t a single important skill that you need as a risk professional. You have to be able to perform the analytical work as well as have strong communication skills (written and verbal).
What is one item you cannot live without?
Seeing my family and dogs daily.
Who would you choose to be if you could switch places for a day?
I would be a trader on the New York Stock Exchange trading floor.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
Who inspires you?
My mother. Sadly, she passed away many years ago.
What is the biggest risk you have taken?
Leaving a job at a local company (great place to work winner) where I was well established to accept a more challenging Treasury position at Bausch & Lomb which was bought by a private equity firm 6 months after I joined.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Be a person of your word. Do what you say you are going to do.
